AFTER a well-earned summer break, Raheny United's Under 8 yellows were back in action last Sunday - and there were no signs of any rustiness as they delivered a superb performance against St Kevin's Boys at St Anne’s Park.
The lads have only been together since the start of the year but they have shown they are more than capable of holding their own in the third division of the DDSL. And against a well-drilled and skilful Kevin's side, they showed they mean business for the second half of the season.
From the kick-off Raheny showed a real determination to get at their opponents and they were soon three goals to the good. Well marshalled at the back by Eoghan Murray and Conor Richmond, Raheny created attack after attack through the front pair of Daniel Carroll and Patrick Ryan, who linked up very well and both hit the net. Goalkeeper Joe Ecock did very well between the posts while Max McLoughlin was straight into the action after being introduced midway through the first half.
Raheny really hit their stride in the second half and added a few more goals in what was a superb display of flowing, attacking football. Patrick Ryan scored the goal of the match with a lovely cushioned header after a fine cross from Daniel Carroll.
For the second match, a few positional switches were made and again Raheny started off like an express train. They found the going a bit tougher in this match on what was a very warm day but despite conceding a couple of well-worked goals from Kevin's, Raheny never stopped battling with the highlight of this game being a well-deserved goal from the tigerish Conor Richmond who dispossessed a defender and tucked the ball away. Joe Ecock and Max McLoughlin both got on the scoresheet in the second half while Eoghan Murray's hard work up and down the field was rewarded with a lovely goal.
Overall, it was a really encouraging performance from the boys and, with Joey Fallon still to come back, the team will be even stronger for the next game. The future looks very bright indeed.
