Making the adjustment to the 11-a-side game is not always easy but Raheny United's U13 Division 3 team have taken to it like a duck to water with four wins from four so far this season.
With high-scoring wins over Kilnamanagh and Glebe North to start off, Raheny have shown they know where the goal is. But it's the tight games that can make all the difference and the nature of their last two victories will give them huge encouragement. A recent hard-fought 2-1 away win over Aungier Celtic was played in difficult conditions and the Walkinstown lads proved a very tough nut to crack as they took a deserved 1-0 lead into the break.
But Raheny stepped up to the mark and after Jamie O'Connor got them back into it with a fine strike after a storming run, striker Aaron Troy won it with just minutes go after seizing on a loose ball before blasting home a powerful shot.
With no match on St Patrick's Day, Raheny found themselves up against Shankhill last Sunday and again found themselves 1-0 down at half time. But the lads regrouped and two goals from Adam Savage helped set them on their way to a superb 6-1 win. All eyes are now on Lucan United next Sunday at St Anne's Park.
Raheny coach Richie Murray is delighted with how his team are performing and said: 'It's been a great start to the season and the lads have really stepped up to the challenge of playing 11-a-side football.'
